Guidelines for Passport renewal and related services

Passport Applications

Please be advised of the following requirements:

  1. a. The applicant should be present in person at the High Commission at the time of submitting the application.
  2. b. Applications are accepted only between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on working days.
  3. c. Original documents i.e., Passport, valid CERPAC, introduction letter on company letterhead, and any other relevant documents as per the service, must be produced by the applicant for verification at the time of submission.
  4. d. Tatkal facility is not available at the High Commission.
  5. e. It is mandatory to upload the photograph and signature online (for minors, a thumb impression may be uploaded) before printing the application.
  6. f. All relevant documents must be uploaded online on the portal prior to submission of the application.
  7. g. No applicant will be entertained without the physical copy of the application form showing the photo and signature.
  8. h. New passports received from India will be delivered to applicants only between 03:00 PM and 05:00 PM on working days.
  9. i. The processing time for issuance of a new passport is a minimum of four weeks, subject to police verification in India and logistical arrangements for delivery to the Mission.
  10. j.  No applications will be accepted nor any passport will be delivered via post/courier.
  11. k. Documents such as the introduction letter must be sent to the following consular email IDs: cons[dot]abuja[at]mea[dot]gov[dot]in and cons1[dot]abuja[at]mea[dot]gov[dot]in.
  12. l. The website for applying for Ordinary Passport, Emergency Certificate, Police Clearance Certificate, Surrender of Indian Passport, Diplomatic Passport, Official Passport, and Identity Certificate at Missions abroad is: https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/gpsp/

Documents required for reissue of Passport

Note:  The documents mentioned below are only for guidance and not to be considered absolute, the verifying officer may ask for any other relevant documents during the verification as deemed fit.

1. When there are no changes to the passport details.

  1. a. Duly filled in online application form for the mission being applied
  2. b. Original passport (currently valid)
  3. c. Original valid CERPAC
  4. d. Aadhar Card (if available)
  5. e. Physical copy of the introduction letter on company letterhead. A soft copy must also be sent from the company’s official email ID to the consular email IDs.
  6. f. Two copies of recent passport photographs

2. When the applicant is a minor

  1. a. Original passport and original valid CERPAC of both parents must be submitted for verification at the time of application submission.
  2. b. ‘Annexure – D’ containing the signatures of both parents must be signed in front of the Passport Officer.
  3. c. Physical presence of both parents and the applicant is mandatory.

3. For Addition of Spouse Details

  1. a. Duly certified Marriage Certificate issued by a competent government authority.
  2. b. Copy of the spouse's passport, if available.
  3. c. Copy of other government identity cards of the spouse such as Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, etc.
  4. d. In case of a foreign national spouse, Marriage Certificate issued by the local government authorities and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  5. e. Passport copy of the foreign spouse, if available.
  6. f. Local national ID(s) of the foreign spouse.

4. For Change of Signature: An affidavit for change of signature must be submitted at the mission.

6. For Change of Name After Marriage: In addition to the above relevant documents, applicants must complete an affidavit for the change of name after marriage and provide a joint The spouse must be present for this service.

7. For Change of Address: Acceptable documents include Aadhar Card, rental agreement, bank statement, or any utility bill that bears the name of the applicant, parent, or spouse.

8. For Change of Name: Two government issued identity documents reflecting the changed name and two advertisements regarding the name change published in two national newspapers of Indian (foreign national news papers, in case the applicant is born out side India) along with a copy of the affidavit on the basis of which the changes are

Reissue of Passport in Lieu of Lost or Damaged Passport

  1. 1. Duly filled-in passport application form.
  2. 2. Copy of the lost passport, if available.
  3. 3. In case of damage, the original damaged passport.
  4. 4. Original FIR copy from the local police station in case the passport is lost.
  5. 5. Valid CERPAC card (original and photocopy).
  6. 6. Two passport-size photographs (35mm x 45mm).
  7. 7. Applicant must submit an affidavit for issuance of a passport in lieu of a lost or damaged passport.
  8. 8. Any other relevant supporting documents, if required.
