Bio Profile of H.E. Ambassador Abhishek Singh, High Commissioner of India to Nigeria
Ambassador Abhishek Singh assumed charge as High Commissioner of India to Nigeria on 9 October, 2025. In addition, Amb. Abhishek Singh is concurrently Ambassador of India to the Republic of Benin and Permanent Representative of India to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Prior to this, Mr. Singh was the Ambassador of India to Venezuela during August, 2020 - July, 2023.
At Headquarters, Mr. Singh was holding the charge of Joint Secretary(Economic Diplomacy & Multilateral Economic Relations) in 2023-25. During this period, he served as India’s Sous-Sherpa for G20, G7, BRICS, IBSA and ACD. As Joint Secretary(Economic Diplomacy), Mr. Abhishek Singh was Director/Member on the Boards/Committees for India Trade Promotion Organizations(ITPO), Invest India and India Institute of Foreign Trade(IIFT). He also served as Director (East & Southern Africa), MEA in 2017-18.
Mr. Singh was Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Kabul in 2018-20. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Embassy of India, Berlin in 2016-17.
Before coming to Berlin, Shri Singh was Counsellor/Political Officer at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN New York (2013-16) covering political issues related to neighboring countries of India, P-5 countries, UN Security Council matters, Peacekeeping issues, NAM, Counter-Terrorism, Disarmament & First Committee issues, Humanitarian issues, Commonwealth etc. He has attended the UNGA as a delegate in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2024 and 2025.
Mr. Singh joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2003. After the initial training for two years at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, New Delhi and External Publicity Division (XP), MEA, he served 5 years in Embassy of India, Beijing from 2005-10. Thereafter, he moved to the Ministry of External Affairs in 2010, first as Desk officer covering India’s bilateral and political relations with Pakistan. He was then selected to be the Officer on Special Duty in the Office of the Minister of State for External Affairs between 2011-2013.
Mr. Abhishek Singh graduated with top honors in political science from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He also holds a PGDM (Human Resources) and has successfully completed an eighteen month course in Mandarin language from the China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing. Mr. Singh has done a course on Foreign Policy from the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University, Washington D.C.
Amb. Abhishek Singh is married to Mrs. Meghna Singh, an International educator and they have two sons.
